Solidarity Saturday – Today We Declare Things That Matter
Today is an important day in the moral direction of our country. Also for the legacy of our family. On this day from sea to shining sea, we will join with thousands of our fellow citizens to put feet and voice to our freedoms, reflecting on the words of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. ~ “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”
And to us people matter. All people.
We of course know this pre-dates our country and constitution. As we follow the teachings of Jesus, we recognize his way of life that valued and loved all irregardless of — well anything. He was color blind, gender blind, status blind, love blind and truly was the epitome of loving the whole world.
When you stop to consider it, Jesus even loved religious people with their ensnarements of greed, judgmental attitudes, prejudice, and exclusion of the poor and outcast. Jesus was not silent about important equality matters — and neither should we.
This morning Sharon and I have accepted the invitation of our son and daughter-in-law, Chad & Heather, and granddaughter Jimmie Kathleen to “not be silent about things that matter” and so we will march together in the Dallas Women’s March.
And we do so in the spirit that our daughter-in-law Heather recently expressed in her writings, ”Not as a matter of protest to our newly-elected president, but as a statement of solidarity… and because our spirits need to walk with others who recognize the importance and validate the need to work for freedom — not just for women and girls, but for everyone.”
What and who matters to you?
Jim

Thanks, Jim. EVERY party must honor women’s rights as well as all humans’ rights. Yet for those of us who follow Jesus, we have no rights. Rather, we have an obligation and great desire to respond to the love of Christ by treating others the way he’d did. Always equal, always selfless, always in love focusing on other’s needs before our own. March on!
