NEW Boys2Men @ Creekside Elementary School – Mentors Needed – Meet Mr. Sepolen
Dion Sepolen believes in mentoring! He would be quick to tell you it saved his life. Growing up in a crime ridden California neighborhood, Dion’s single parent mom moved his family to Texas for a better future. And now this 5th grade science teacher at Creekside Elementary School in Lewisville ISD can recount the many stories of the men who helped shape his life and future. He believes it is his time to give back the same.
To know the story of Mr. Dion Sepolen is to know the motivation of why he is so passionate about beginning a Boys2Men Mentoring Initiative at Creekside Elementary School beginning in October.
Dion says that, “Mentors are truly needed for elementary-age students. It is important for students to see people who have taken the steps they are currently taking, people who have attained the goals the students have established for themselves, and people who give them hope as they create a vision for their future.”
The Boys2Men Leadership and Mentoring Initiative is a program with the goals of developing leadership and character traits in 4th & 5th grade boys. It is a partnership between Loving Community volunteers and Creekside Elementary. The primary goal is pretty simple. To help boys learn to be men with the encouragement of a male mentor and role model!
Men from the community are needed as mentors on the first Wednesday of the month from 1-2 pm at Creekside ES during the months of October-June. This 8-month, one hour per month mentoring role is a life-giving and important bond for both the mentor and mentee.
