Bryan Newkirk Recipient of April 2016 Good Neighbor Award
Retired United States Army Officer Bryan Newkirk has been presented the Good Neighbor Award for April 2016 in recognition of his outstanding volunteer work and involvement in the community. The award is presented monthly by Loving Community, a neighborhood advocacy group to deserving individuals or businesses.
Newkirk, along with his wife Maudie and family, are Lewisville residents living in the Rockbrook Townhouse community. This neighborhood location, along with Bryan’s strong faith in God, has provided the platform in which Bryan regularly gives back to the community through service and prayer.
Jim Mustain, Executive Director of Loving Community recalls, “I remember the very first time I met Bryan at a neighborhood cookout. His friendly and caring demeanor makes him approachable and easy to talk with. Our conversation naturally led to our common faith in God and belief that our neighborhood connections were no coincidence and God had much bigger plans.”
Bryan, a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, is a family man with a devotion to God, his wife, and children. He is a church member at the Prestonwood Baptist Church and also volunteers with Campus Crusade for Christ, counseling oversees students in spiritual decisions.
In his volunteer work through Loving Community he is a Bible study teacher at the neighboring Arbor House Memory Care Center. His wife Maudie regularly accompanies him as they walk the short distance to not only lead the Bible study, but minister and pray with the residents and staff. Bryan is humble in his work, always careful to give all the glory to God.
Ask any neighbor in the Rockbrook town homes, or staff and residences at Arbor House, when you ask Bryan how he is doing, his answer is the same. “I’m blessed”! All knowing Bryan would echo those same words. Bryan is a blessing to all he encounters!
Loving Community’s Good Neighbor award is sponsored by Gaylene Anders of Ebby Halliday Realtors in honor of Ebby Halliday Acers who consistently modeled her life on the principle of “Do something for someone everyday”.
