Bruce Quill Recipient of Good Neighbor Award
LEWISVILLE, TEXAS – Coppell resident Bruce Quill has been chosen as the March 2018 good neighbor of the month, an award presented by Loving Community a local neighborhood advocacy group.
Quill is part of a growing population of retired corporate executives whose values include community volunteering. They embrace the philosophy of “retired from work, but not from life!”
After a successful career in the field of human resource management spanning 35 years, 23 of those with ST Microelectronics, in January 2018 Bruce opted for an early retirement. While at ST Microelectronics he developed and managed local community involvement activities for the company’s 2,000 employees that supported local educational and environmental initiatives.
Jim Mustain, Executive Director of Loving Community in speaking of Bruce said, “I initially met Bruce fourteen years ago and knew him as a parishioner at the church where I pastored. He was always friendly, engaging, and I enjoyed our conversations about God and his volunteering in the community. Little did I know that many years later both of us would make career changes that we would again reconnect us around community volunteering.”
Bruce began volunteering with Loving Community two years ago through the Loving Reading program at LISD’s Rockbrook Elementary School. He and other volunteers from his company invested time weekly reading to students. The reading program’s mantra “helping kids imagine” inspired Bruce to do some imagining of his own about a key role in community volunteering after retirement.
Now in retirement Bruce has chosen to join the Loving Community team as a Business and Volunteer Specialist helping build and improve upon the volunteering experience for others and helping companies establish employee volunteer plans for their own companies.
He began his new role in March and says, “I discovered a passion for serving those in the local community and hope to continue to fuel this passion through my involvement with Loving Community by helping others give back one hour at a time!”
Bruce has been married to his wife, Rosie, for 28 years, and is the proud father of two adult daughters. He has attended Valley Ranch Baptist Church for the last 15 years and is a graduate of The Ohio State University.
Loving Community’s Good Neighbor award is sponsored by Gaylene Anders of Ebby Halliday Realtors in honor of Ebby Halliday Acers who consistently modeled her life on the principle of “Do something for someone everyday.”
